Horizon Media and Fallon
NBC Universal Television Group has awarded its estimated $140
million media buying and planning account to both Horizon Media
Liberty Mutual has selected Hill, Holliday of Boston as its
agency of record. The agency bested Arnold Worldwide Boston;
Euro RSCG New York; and incumbent kirshenbaum, bond + partners
New York for the win. Pile and Company managed the review. The
account is worth $60 million.
IKEA North America has renewed its contract with Horizon Media
through 2006. There was no review. The agency was awarded media
buying and planning for IKEA's Los Angeles market in April 2004,
and won the U.S. media buying and planning account in February
2005. Horizon will handle Communication Channel Planning, all
media buying, and local promotions for IKEA. Billings are estimated
between $50 and $60 million.
Life Savers and Creme Savers
BBDO Chicago has been awarded advertising
assignments for Life Savers and Creme Savers brands, both a
part of the Wrigley portfolio. Foote, Cone & Belding, New
York, previously handled both accounts. The account is estimated
at $20 million.
Vaseline has moved creative duties from J. Walter Thompson
to Bartle Bogle Hegarty. The account is valued at $30 million.
Hershey has parted ways with DDB Worldwide, New York,
and Ogilvy & Mather. Arnold Worldwide, New York, will pick
up much of the work for Hershey's, Hershey's Kisses, and Reese's
Samsung has moved creative and account chores on its global
account from Berlin Cameron/Red Cell and JWT to Leo Burnett.
The account is estimated at $200 million.
Media Planning Group
French food company Danone has tapped Media Planning Group
(MPG) to handle its media buying for France. Vizeum previously
handled the account. MPG bested Vizeum, OMD, and KR for the
win. Spending was not released.
Deutsch Los Angeles has been awarded various advertising and
marketing duties for Chevrolet, focusing on the company's NASCAR
and Major League Baseball campaigns. Campbell-Ewald remains
Chevrolet's agency of record.
Bank of America
Bank of America's estimated $600 million account may be in
jeopardy at holding company Interpublic. The financial services
marketer is in talks with Omnicom and WPP Group about servicing
its account. Interpublic's Initiative Media unit handles media
planning and buying.
Welch's has selected Maxus Communications as its media agency,
responsible for media planning and buying. The account is estimated
at $25 million.
City National Bank
City National Bank has chosen M&C Saatchi as its agency
of record. M&C Saatchi will develop an advertising and marketing
program for City National that will launch in the first quarter
of 2006. Spending was not released.
AKQA has been named lead interactive agency for Coca-Cola.
The account is valued at $6 million.
Campbell-Ewald has won the advertising and marketing account
for U.S. Navy recruiting. The agency began its initial contract
with Navy in 2000 and recently completed a government-mandated
review for a contract that could extend to 2010. The account
is worth $91.9 million.
The Weinstein Company
Deep Focus has been named online agency of record for The Weinstein
Company, overseeing all online media planning and buying, creative
advertising, and public relations. The Weinstein Company is
the new multi-media company created by Bob and Harvey Weinstein,
the founders of Miramax Films. Sources estimate the account's
value between $2 and $3 million.
StarLink Worldwide has been named media agency of record for
Supercuts. StarLink will handle all media strategy and investment
for Supercuts' North American operations, encompassing primarily
local and national television and local radio. The agency bested
PHD, New York; KSL, New York; Cramer Krasselt, Chicago; and
Laughlin Constable, Chicago for the win. MediaCom previously
handled the account, and was not invited to participate in the
LensCrafters has awarded DDB Chicago its estimated $50 to $60
million account. Deutsch New York previously handled the account.
Mrs. Paul's and Van de Kamp's Brands
Pinnacle Foods Corporation has awarded the creative portion
of its Mrs. Paul's and Van de Kamp's brands to LaunchPad Media.
The U.S. Army has extended its agreement with its current agency
Leo Burnett for six more months.
Deutsch Los Angeles has been named marketing agency for Helio,
a joint wireless venture between SK Telecom and EarthLink. Deutsch
LA will handle all integrated creative and media duties. The
account is estimated at $50 million.
Pentax Imaging has named Hunt Adkins, Minneapolis, as advertising
agency of record, in conjunction with ongoing global coordinating
agency ADK, Tokyo. Work will break in the fall and include trade
and consumer print advertising, outdoor, collateral, consumer
and sales incentive promotions and event marketing. The campaign
will focus on the full line of Pentax digital cameras. The account
is estimated at $5 million.
Merrill Lynch Draft FCB
Draft FCB has been awarded Merrill Lynch's direct marketing
account, estimated at $10 million.
Time Warner Wing Latino
Wing Latino has been awarded Hispanic ad duties in the Los
Angeles area for Time Warner Cable.
BBDO has been awarded Asia-Pacific ad duties on the Gillette
account, which was previously handled by McCann Erickson and
Ogilvy & Mather.
Fallon Minneapolis resigned the Sony Walkman and Connect accounts,
citing financial differences. The agency was awarded the work
in June and resigned the account shortly thereafter. Project
work was created, but it's doubtful that the work will see the
light of day. Fallon's European and Asian work for Sony (including
Fallon London's "Balls" campaign for Sony Bravia)
Crispin Porter + Bogusky
Days after winning the $400 million Volkswagen account, Crispin
Porter + Bogusky was awarded the $45 million Sprite account.
The agency bested Ogilvy & Mather for the win.
National Geographic Channel
National Geographic Channel has chosen Mediasmith as its interactive
agency promoting upcoming specials. The account is estimated
at $5 million.
Notching another win is Mediasmith, being named media agency
for K&N Engineering. Mediasmith will handle online and offline
media duties. The account is estimated at $5 million.
Cohen's Fashion Optical
Flying Point Media
Cohen's Fashion Optical has selected Flying Point Media to
handle online marketing aimed at generating traffic to its franchise
locations throughout the Northeast and Southern Florida. Flying
Point will be involved in all aspects of Internet marketing,
from strategy and creative to buying and measurement. Spending

Volkswagen has awarded Crispin Porter + Bogusky its estimated
$350 million account. Arnold Worldwide previously handled the
account. Crispin Porter + Bogusky also resigned its BMW Mini
Warschawski has been retained by KMS, a retailer of hair care

YellowPages.com has selected GSD&M as its advertising agency
following a review. This will be the first ad agency of record
for the new company, which is an Internet Yellow Pages joint

The Quigley Corporation has selected Merkley + Partners of
New York City as its creative agency of record to handle all
creative for its Cold-EEZE brand.
Luck be a lady... Geary Interactive has been retained by the
Henry Brent Company/Resort Gaming Group to provide Web site
development and online marketing for Lady Luck, a gaming operation,
casino, and hotel.
Interpublic's Universal McCann has been awarded the majority
of European and Latin American media duties for the next three
years on the global marketing account for the Spanish telecom
company Telefonica. The account is reported to be worth $400

Oh thank heaven! 7-Eleven in Dallas has tapped a team of Omnicom
agencies, led by Tracy Locke, to handle advertising and promotional
work. The account is valued at $40 million.
Sears has consolidated its creative account at Young &
Rubicam. The agency previously split duties with sibling Ogilvy
Bacardi has moved media planning and buying chores for Bombay
Sapphire gin to KSL Media. Billings are estimated at $10 million.
Universal McCann previously handled Bombay Sapphire and continues
to handle Bacardi.
CIBA vision, the eye care unit of Novartis AG, has named kirshenbaum
bond + partners (kbp) as its global consumer advertising agency
for its FreshLook brand. kbp will provide strategic, creative
marketing and public relations support. London-based 23red will
partner with kbp to distribute the campaign in Europe. Grey
Worldwide will continue as CIBA Vision's global consumer advertising
agency for its O2Optix, Night & Day, and Focus Dailies brands.
The account's estimated value is $20 million.
NBC Universal Television Network
NBC Universal Television Network has placed its media planning
and buying account, estimated at $140 million, in review. Horizon
Media, Media Kitchen, and Starcom MediaVest presently handle
L'Oréal Consumer Products has shifted all media planning and
buying across 26 European markets to Publicis' ZenithOptimedia
from Interpublic's Universal McCann unit. The account is estimated
at a whopping $1.5 billion in media billings. The decision follows
a four-month review involving the two agencies. The assignment
moves to ZenithOptimedia Oct. 1, and covers a two-year term.
Subway has ended its yearlong relationship with Goodby, Silverstein
& Partners, San Francisco. GS&P will continue to work
for two more months. Work will be consolidated to another Subway
agency, MMB of Boston.
Verizon Wireless has selected Latinvox New York as its agency
of record for the company's Hispanic marketing initiatives across
the Northeast. Latinvox will provide Verizon Wireless with integrated
marketing support including advertising, promotions, direct
marketing, public relations and media planning and buying. Spending

Crispin Porter & Bogusky has resigned the Gateway advertising
account, estimated at $40 million.
MSN has moved its online media buying duties from Avenue A/Razorfish
to Universal McCann.
Saatchi & Saatchi
Excedrin's got an advertising account this big, and moved the
work over to Saatchi & Saatchi.
America Online is launching an estimated $50 million ad campaign
to promote its portal, AOL.com. Atmosphere BBDO developed the
online portion and The Martin Agency handled the offline components.
Carat Interactive is handling the company's paid search and
search optimization efforts. OMD is handling media buying and
Hilton Hotels Corp. has awarded its $30 million advertising
account to Y&R. OMD will handle the media buying.
Beck's Ground Zero
Zero has been selected to handle global creative chores for
Beck's beer, estimated at $40 million.

McCaffery Ratner Gottlieb & Lane as advertising agency of
record for a multi-media campaign scheduled to break in the
fourth quarter. Billings are estimated at more than $2 million.
Real Branding San Francisco has been selected by Darden Restaurants
as its interactive agency of record, following a nationwide
review. The agency's responsibilities will include strategic
planning for online initiatives, commercial Web site development
and maintenance, marketing mix integration management, online
advertising development and media planning. Real Branding will
provide services for the Red Lobster, Olive Garden, Bahama Breeze,
Smokey Bones, and Darden corporate Web sites. Spending was not
DaimlerChrysler's Smart minicar brand has selected BBDO as
its head agency, replacing Springer Jacoby.
BC-USA, a producer of specialty cheese products, has named
MARC USA as agency of record for its Alouette brand. Grey Worldwide,

Van Gogh Vodka
Van Gogh Vodka has moved its interactive account, estimated
at $4 million, to ComMarketing.
MayoSeitz Media has been selected as the media agency of record

Alticor, a provider of business products and manufacturing
and logistics services, has hired Element 79 Partners to work
on a new corporate branding effort.
WDDG has been tapped by the Wm. Wrigley Jr. Company to
redesign the Candystand.com Web site and expand it to include
additional Wrigley brands. Wrigley invited agencies to propose
a redesign for Candystand.com, as well as a recommendation for
how its other brands could be woven into the site.

Fonterra, a New Zealand-based company that sells dairy products,

responsibilities. The decision follows a four-month review that
included four finalists. The account is estimated at $40 million.
Green Mountain Coffee
Green Mountain Coffee has selected BrandBuzz, a division of
Young & Rubicam Brands, as its agency of record.
Dubai-based international airline Emirates has
named Atmosphere BBDO as its online creative agency of record
for its global Web site redesign. The span of work will include
business analysis, user research, information architecture,
creative and content development, and technology integration.

Jay West Special Occasion Fashions. Jay West specializes in

OLN has selected Media Storm of Norwalk, CT with online and
offline media planning/buying duties for the upcoming 2005 NHL
season. The objective is to drive viewers to hockey games televised

Media Marketing Solutions, an integrated communications agency
and part of GroupM, has been chosen by SlimQuick Laboratories,
Toronto, to handle broadcast planning and buying for the U.S.
launch of SlimQuick, a diet pill designed for women. The account

Prime Restaurants of Canada has named Downtown Partners as
its advertising agency of record. Downtown Partners will be

After a three-month review, The Community Builders, Boston,
has named The Republik, Durham, as its first advertising agency

for its Durham "Hope VI" project. Webb Patterson,

budget will go to naming, corporate I.D., collateral, newspaper
advertising, and environmental design.

The Brooklyn Brothers have been named agency of record for
The New York Rangers. The team has tasked the agency with reconnecting
The New York Rangers with its fan base after the 2004/2005 season
